Public Safety Warning regarding Illegally Obtained Prescription Drugs http://statesboropd.com/blog/public-safety-warning-regarding-prescription-drugs/ Fri, 02 Jun 2017 21:24:11 +0000 http://statesboropd.com/?p=2431

Press Release

06/02/17

Madison Bridges, Public Information Specialist

Statesboro Police Department

25 West Grady Street

Statesboro, Georgia 30458

The Statesboro Police Department would like to issue a public safety warning concerning the abuse of prescription drugs and/or counterfeit prescription drugs.

Since April 14, 2017 the Criminal Investigations Bureau has investigated the deaths of three (3) individuals in Statesboro related to the apparent abuse of prescription drugs and/or counterfeit drugs. These investigations have resulted in the seizures of a quantity of suspected oxycodone, Roxicodone, Xanax and unknown substances in powder form. All of the deaths appear to have been accidental overdoses or adverse reactions to the abuse of the drugs and that all of the drugs were illegally obtained. Investigators suspect there is a good possibility that the drugs are counterfeit pills being obtained from internet sources and possibly contain substances such as fentanyl or other deadly chemicals.

We would like to warn anyone that has obtained any pills or other similar drugs from sources other than their doctor or pharmacist, to not ingest the drugs. All of the current seized drugs are being sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Crime Lab in Savannah for analysis. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

We would also like to remind anyone that has obtained these types of drugs or has prescribed medications that need to be destroyed of the drop box located in the Statesboro Police Department’s lobby. The drop box is accessible from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. No personal contact is required for the drop off of medications in the drop box.

Anyone with information concerning these cases is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department at (912) 764-9911. You may also anonymously submit information to www.tipsoft.com or by texting a tip to “TIPSSPD plus your message” to 274637 (CRIMES). All information is strictly confidential.
