The Statesboro Police Department’s Impact Team made 6 arrests on drug and gun charges and one arrest on illegal distribution of alcohol charges this week.
On October 3rd, members of the Statesboro Police Department’s Impact Team, assisted by detectives and patrol officers, executed a search warrant at a residence in Park Place Villas. During the search they discovered a significant quantity of marijuana, drug related objects and 3 firearms, 1 of which was stolen. Six individuals within the residence were arrested on charges related to the evidence uncovered by the search, as well as outstanding warrants from other agencies. They are listed below.
In September, the Statesboro Police Department’s Impact Team began an investigation into a report that a man was illegally selling liquor out of a van. Through information gained in an undercover operation, the Impact Team was able to identify Zema Smith as the suspect in this incident. Smith was arrested on October 3rdafter a warrant was obtained for his arrest. At the time of his arrest, he had a van full of liquor.
The Impact Team is conducting proactive investigations that affect the quality of life of our citizens. In regards to this, Chief Broadhead said, “We know that a significant number of the Armed Robberies committed in our community are drug motivated, and usually happen at known drug houses. The vast majority of the residents of Park Place are law-abiding people who want a safe neighborhood to raise their children. Individuals bringing drugs and the potential for violence into a family neighborhood and putting the children who live there at risk is not acceptable. In regards to the second incident, businesses and individuals in our community that legally serve and sell alcohol pay a premium and go through an extensive process to receive their licenses. Someone selling alcoholic drinks out of the back of a van undercuts those legitimate businesses and puts consumers at risk. I am very proud of the work our officers and detectives are doing to make our community a safer place!”
