The Statesboro Police Department is currently seeking a suspect in reference to an Aggravated Assault investigation.

On 1/1/19 at 3:15 am, shortly after the closing of a local club, officers of the Statesboro Police Department’s Patrol Bureau responded to the 300 block of James Street in reference to multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers found a chaotic scene and began the search for the potential victims. Fortunately no one suffered gunshot injuries as a result of the incident.

Further investigation by officers and detectives indicated that Myron Eugene Johnson (26 yoa, Florence Avenue, Statesboro) had fired shots at a group of individuals and into a house where two children were present, the children being located only a few feet away from where the bullets struck.

Warrants have been issued for Johnson’s arrest on seven counts of Aggravated Assault, one count of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and one count of Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Crime. Johnson is also wanted in a 2017 kidnapping investigation. The United States Marshals Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force is actively in search of Johnson based on these warrants.

Never try to apprehend a fugitive yourself. Anyone with information concerning this subject is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department or Detective Jared Akins at (912) 764-9911 or the nearest law enforcement agency.
